What exactly is an auto immune disorder in hair & skin?

What exactly is an auto immune disorder in hair & skin?

Our body has its own defence force called “AntiBodies”. Whenever there is an attack from foreign bacteria/virus/fungus, called “Antigens”, the body produces “Antibodies” to fight them.

So, in normal cases, Antibodies are our heroes, but sometimes, they become our enemy.
How?

Instead of killing outsiders, Antibodies start attacking our own cells because they identify our own cells as foreign bodies.

Apart from overactive defence, overgrowth of cells in certain body parts is also a reason for an autoimmune disorder.

Common Autoimmune Disorders

  • Cancer
  • Type-1 & 2 Diabetes
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Myasthenia gravis

There are a few commonly observed hair & skin autoimmune diseases.
Let’s acknowledge them.

Alopecia: Hair loss disease where the body’s defence system attacks our own hair root cells and kill them prematurely.

Psoriasis: Overgrowth of skin cells in certain skin areas leading to itchy, flaky, silvery thick patches.

Atopic Dermatitis: Genetically or injury-induced hypersensitivity of the skin causing redness, inflammation & itch.

While it’s challenging to cure these concerns, we have to try and protect our precious hair & skin from these concerns with best external nutritions and wait for these diseases to get cured by itself.

When you meet a dermatologist for any of this concern, the chances are that they will prescribe topical steroids with Vaseline or any kind of heavy moisturizer. While there is nothing wrong with using these products, it's better if we can cure these concerns with natural solutions. This way, the results will be safer and more sustainable. Here are two of our most preferred solution for hair and skin.
